What's "grassroots advocacy" and why should I get involved?

Grassroots advocacy is individuals committed to influencing positive changes in their lives, their communities and in their elected governments by making their personal stories and opinions known. Getting involved means calling, writing a letter, sending an email, or even visiting your elected representatives who serve you in Washington, DC, and in your state.

You CAN make changes happen.

Here's how:

  1. Sign up to become an Arthritis Advocate and  find a listing of your Federal, state and local representatives.
  2. Follow the links to either e-mail all your representatives with one click or write to them individually.
  3. You will also be able to get more information on your representative, including bio info, Web site address, information regarding sponsorship status on key legislation and current press releases.
  4. Next you can choose a pre-composed message by the Arthritis Foundation or create your own.
  5. Then fill in the short email form and click "send" to make your voice heard.

Thank you for taking a moment to tell your Senators and U.S. Representatives how arthritis affects your life and for asking them to support Arthritis Advocacy Priorities.

Like any other activity, advocacy or lobbying has basic rules which every advocate should know.  Download the Guide to Volunteer  Advocacy.
